The Seduction Expert, written by Saya Lopez Ortega, is the first book in the highly anticipated, The Seduction Expert Series.  The Seduction Expert is the first book by Ms.Ortega that I have read, and I am sorry to say that there was not much about this book that I enjoyed. The writing was awkward, choppy, and the dialogue felt forced at times. This book was promoted as a romance; I could not find anything even remotely close to love, romance, or seduction in this book. Also, I was very disappointed and felt misled by the title.

I tried to enjoy this book, but when I can find little to no redeeming qualities in the main character, I find it challenging to do so. The heroine of this story is The Baroness; a self-made woman who has pulled herself up to a prominent position in high Parisian society solely by her ingenuity.  I found this to be her only commendable trait. However, I was not too fond of the methods she employed to become a successful businesswoman.  I found her to be shallow, arrogant, narcissistic, and an all-around horrible person. She treats her employees like dirt under her stilettos, and she treats her clientele only slightly better than her employees. Also, another thing that bothered me was the fat shaming; it just wasn’t necessary.  The author has the MC doing all this in an internal monologue that I found annoying.  The Baroness only cares about the size of a person’s bank account and how much money she can get out of people. I won’t comment on the relationship she has with her fiancé, but suffice it to say she doesn’t treat him much better. The  Baroness called herself a feminist over and over again, and I would wholeheartedly disagree,  she just came across as a man hater.

I felt that the author did a great disservice to feminism by having this character be lacking in both personal and social integrity. Strong women do not have to degrade men and women in their lives.    Strong women are uplifting and supportive of the people in their lives. I was a bit surprised by all the over the top reviews for this book and wondered if I read a different edition then all the other reviewers.  Unfortunately, I can not recommend this book, and I will not be reading the second book in the series.  This book was very disappointing, and I struggled to finish it.

The Good Mistake (Hemsworth Brothers, #3) by Haleigh Lovell

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Content Rating: 18+

Genre: NA (New Adult), Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy

Publication Date: May 2019

What happens when you have two awesome but meddlesome friends, then add one horse girl and a Grand Slam winner? You get The Good Mistake, by Haleigh Lovell. I make no secret of loving Ms. Lovell’s books, and this book, (actually the whole series) is well written, hilariously funny and pure goodness with a side of hotness – a book that should not be missed.

Writing a romantic comedy is no easy accomplishment, to make the reader shake their head and say, “Oh, no he/she did not just say that!” Moreover, to laugh out loud, and smile till your face hurts. To make you fall in love with the characters and to root for them like a high school cheerleader, Haleigh Lovell does all these things seamlessly.

The Good Mistake is the third book in the Hemsworth Brothers series, although this is a stand-alone story I would highly recommend reading the two previous books. This book leads us down the hysterical path of Edric and Lucy’s love story.

Ms. Lovell’s characters are always written authentically and relatable. You are guaranteed to embrace them into your heart.

Edric has always been attracted to the wrong girl. He is too good-looking for his own good and a bit arrogant – describing himself as a hot and sexy athlete and sees himself as a player.  However, he is so much more than that; he is kind and thoughtful and also vulnerable.

Lucy is a breath of fresh air, she is down to earth, playful and silly with a bit of cheekiness and a hot mess all at the same time. Lucy describes her love love-life as…” My dating life is soup.  And I’m a fork.” She is the woman other women want to have as their best friend. I want to dream like Lucy!

When you put Lucy and Edric together what you get are two very different people but, also similar in many ways. The back and forth and the amusing dialogue between the two is pure magic. Also, of course, as in all of Ms. Lovell’s books, the chemistry between our two lovers is steamy and erotic.  Best of all, Lucy and Eric share that unforeseen love, that creeps up on you in the most spectacular way and grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go.

As I have said before Ms. Lovell can write a great romantic comedy, but her books (at least for me) always have a more profound hidden message mixed in all the fun and silliness. This book reminds us that sometimes we are confronted with difficult choices in life. To let the bad things that have happened in the past affect our life and bring us down or we can learn from what has happened and embraces the life we have now and be grateful for it.  We should always try to live our best life.  I loved that Ms.  Lovell instilled this mindset into our hero, Edric.

I highly recommend The Good Mistake if you are looking for a feel-good book with characters that will have you laughing out loud one minute, and the next minute fanning yourself from the hotness she creates on the page. Ms. Lovell is a master of the rom-com genre.

The Foreplay (Hemsworth Brothers #2) by Haleigh Lovell

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Content Rating: 18+

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Contemporary Romance

Published: June 2018

The Foreplay is very well written, and the characters well developed, and the story also grabs the reader from the first page to the last. I was unable to put this book down.
The Foreplay is a continuation of Ender and Adelaide’s story that started in The Slam. This is a beautiful story of love, mutual respect, and unconditional acceptance. I loved that the author took her time to develop the relationship between these two characters, which gave the story a very authentic quality. Of course, at times, the road to love can be a rocky yet funny one. Ms. Lovell had me cracking up with all the pop culture references, and of course, all the supporting characters are hilarious too, Miguel being my personal favorite. I have to say some of my favorite parts were the intensely erotic and sensual scenes between Ender and Adelaide. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I am looking forward to reading Edric’s story, The Good Mistake.
“Anywhoozle” this book is not to be missed, so what are you waiting for, put it on your TBR list!

*I received an ARC of The Foreplay by the author. I received no compensation. This review is my honest opinion*

Apple Books:

🖤Six years ago, Harold Dalton framed me for theft and sent me to jail to steal my diamond discovery. He gave his daughter to Jack Clarke in exchange for the excavation rights. Today, I’m free, and I’m coming for him with a vengeance. Six years of cruelty make beasts out of men. I’m going to take back what he stole from me, and more. I’m not interested in his properties or shares. I don’t want his small change. I want his biggest asset. Beautiful, mentally unstable, Angelina Dalton-Clarke.

Worth billions, she’s the wealthiest widow in the country, and also the craziest. Her self-harming tendencies had Jack declare her incompetent before he put a gun to his head and blew out his brains. Lina isn’t allowed to touch a cent of her riches. Her father manages her finances. He has all the signing power. As her husband, that chore will fall to me. But if she thinks I only want her for her money, she’s sadly mistaken.

🖤Charmaine Pauls is one of my favorite authors, her books have complex characters that she immerses in dark and twisted ways. Her writing style is like a mosaic, continuously changing and the multi-layered plots will have you wondering what could possibly happen next.

Charmaine Pauls was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She obtained a degree in Communication at the University of Potchestroom, and followed a diverse career path in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, photography, graphic design, and brand marketing. Her writing has always been an integral part of her professions.

After relocating to Chile with her French husband, she fulfilled her passion to write creatively full-time. Charmaine has published nine novels since 2011, as well as several short stories and articles. Two of her shorts have been selected by the International Literary Society for an anthology from across the African continent.

🔥A story that will break your heart

🔥The perfect  antihero

🔥A beautiful broken girl

🔥Lies, secrets, and vengeance

🔥Dark, lustful scenes

Beauty in the Broken is…heart-wrenching,  beautifully written, and darkly twisted.  There are few books that I want to go back and reread, but this is one of them. I have always loved Charmaine Pauls’ books, but I do believe she has outdone herself with this book. I feel that she has written Damian and Lina’s story from the depths of her soul, ahhh and what a dark soul that must be (haha). These two characters are so perfectly broken, both separately and together, you can’t help but fall in love with them. Their story is not pretty; it’s raw, dirty and utterly compelling; you will not be able to put it down. Beauty in the Broken is a malevolent story filled with power hungry men, revenge,  unbridled violence, secrets, blackmail and best of all, a profoundly dark, obsessive, twisted love one man has for one woman.

Damian Hart was a doomed young, naive man when he walked into Harold Dalton’s house. Damian made two mistakes; the first one being, trusting Harold Dalton with the diamond mine he discovered, the second, falling in love with Harold’s daughter Lina. However, Harold has also made mistakes; he stole Damian’s diamond mine and framed him for a crime he didn’t commit, but more importantly, he underestimated Damian Hart.    Damian has had six, long, hard years in prison to perfect his revenge. Planning his vengeance may have propelled Damian through his years in prison, but prison made Damian into a dark, hard man. A man who will do anything, hurt anyone, to get what he wants and what he desires. Moreover, that one thing is Lina.

Angelina Dalton-Clarke, Lina, is our beautifully broken heroine. Her father has used her to advance himself in the diamond business by basically selling her into marriage with Jack Clarke. When Clark kills himself, Lina becomes one of the richest women in South Africa, but before he does he has Lina declared incompetent. Upon Clark’s death, Lina’s father conveniently takes control of her fortune. For me, Lina was the perfect combination of soft and feminine, but she was also tough as nails, a true survivor. She has suffered dearly at the hands of men that were supposed to love and cherish her. Through all her suffering she stayed strong to herself, resilient, she never gave up.

This story was expertly written, and from the first page to the last, I was hooked. This story is a dark romance, not a warm a fuzzy read.  Please expect to be challenged by what our heroine must endure.  At times, I felt so connected to Lina I could have cried. Ms. Pauls creates characters that you will fall in love with and others that you will hate to the depths of your soul. I felt that the story was original and expertly told, so expect to be consumed by this book.  She perfectly captures the lust, love, obsession and even the hate that Damian and Lena feel for each other. Their pull towards each other begins from the first innocent moment they meet and six years later explodes in an erotic ride that had me blushing in the best way possible. Ms. Pauls is the master of the dark erotic genre.

My advice to you is clear your calendar and be prepared to be obsessed with this book.

The Never Game (Colter Shaw #1) by Jeffery Deaver

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Content Rating: 18+

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Publication Date: May 14th, 2019

The Never Game, written by Jeffery Deaver is the first book in a  new thriller series featuring the very likable character, Colter Shaw.  Although I have not had the pleasure of reading any other books by Jeffery Deaver I have heard good things.   When I recently found one of his books on NetGalley I jumped at the opportunity to read and review.

This story was very well developed, researched and painstakingly thought out. I did find the beginning a little slow but felt that was due in no small amount of background information given, as is sometimes needed with the first novel of this caliber.  I must admit that I am not a fan of the gaming culture, but I did find that Deaver was able to present the story in such a way that you don’t have to be a lover of all things video games.

I liked the way the author weaves the plot of the book with Shaw’s survivalist familial background. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn about how Colter grew up with a paranoid father, intellectual mother and two siblings. Deaver does give us little hints to a subplot, and I am looking forward to seeing where that takes Shaw, but that is all I am willing to say about that. The main plot is filled with deception, greed and plenty of twists and turns and a little touch of romance.

I did find  Colter Shaw to be somewhat of a paradox, on the one hand, he was intriguingly complex and enigmatic, and on the other hand, he presents himself an uncomplicated and straightforward a what you see is what you get kind of guy. These characteristics made him interesting and likable, a character that you want to get to know better. Deaver does an excellent job surrounding Colter with a very well developed group of secondary characters that add mystery to the story.

I am looking forward to reading where Shaw’s “reward-seeking” will take him.
